Hi everyone.
My name is James Park and as some of you already know, I’m the one behind the scenes here. With the critical help of some incredibly talented people that make up the Jack & Company team, I’m responsible for much of the content angle here. You can see my Linkedin profile. I am a real person.
I wanted to put this message up myself without any editors because these are trying times for all of us. 1Ls, we are here for you and we’re doing this for you - in light of everything happening, we’re going to refund all existing paid subscribers and make all the content on Top1L free for the time being.
I went to law school during the Great Recession and did my law firm interviews in 2009, which was the first interview cycle after Lehman Brothers crashing. It was super tough for most of my peers, not because they weren’t incredibly smart and talented, but because summer associate classes had shrunk to the lowest levels ever in the midst of the doom and gloom of the markets. I fear that this is the reality that many of you will be facing this year.
In such situations, a paid subscription model would tend to provide less benefit to those that need it the most. While our operations have a cost, we can afford staying free for the time being. Beginning now, we will be converting all of our paid-subscriber only issues to free issues, so that every single one of you will benefit from our unique and conflict-free perspective on starting out your legal career.
For those that have paid, we thank you so much for your support - it means so much to us. But the right thing to do now that we are making everything free, would be to refund your accounts. It will take a couple days, but we’ll get it done, I promise you.
I look forward to working with the Jack & Company team to continue to support the 1Ls out there. We’ll do this by providing insightful, conflict-free content devoid of BS.
I also wanted to offer my contact information to all of our subscribers, instead of keeping it just with a small subset of you. My email is james@top1l.com. Please reach out if you need help on anything related to the corporate law firm career track (practice areas, law firms, mock interviews). To this date, I have responded to every single email that asked for help within 24 hours. Now that I am making it public, my response time may lag a bit, but I will still respond thoughtfully to each and every one. Thanks again for your support.
You can get through this. Your career will last much longer than the virus will, so please stay the course. I wish you the very best.
James Park
